Description: Indigo was used for more than 6,000 years across the world and in Colonial America.  Some plantations grew Indigo during the Colonial period. Students will learn to prepare wool yarn for dyeing.  They will learn to prepare the indigo dye bath and dye the wool yarn.  The Indigo dyeing technique is completely different than any other dyeing technique.   Students should wear old clothes and/or bring an apron.

When: Saturday, May 2, 9:00AM – 12:30PM

Instructor: Beth Cripe. Beth Cripe spins Suri Alpaca fiber, which she has won awards with her hand spun yarn.  Yarn will be used in the dyeing process.

Cost: $63.00, including all fees and materials.

Skill Level: No previous experience needed. Age limit 12-14, depends on attention span as it is a long class.

Class Size: Minimum 2 students, maximum 6 students.

Location: Speece Picnic Shelter, or at Kuns Cabin in case of rain.

Participants bring: Old clothes and an apron.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Registration and payment are required at least two weeks prior to the class dates.
  • All classes require pre-registration and pre-payment.
  • To reserve your spot and pre-pay by check, please mail a check to Canal Park, attn: Classes, 1030 N. Washington Street, Delphi, IN 46923. Please identify your desired class(es) in the check’s memo. A fee will be charged for returned checks. 
  • We reserved the right to cancel classes if minimum registrations are not met.  If we cancel a class, students can transfer without a penalty.  A full refund (minus credit card fees) will be given to students who do not wish to transfer to another class. 
  • Students may cancel or transfer classes up to two weeks prior to a class without losing their payment (minus credit card fees).  Deadline to register is two weeks prior to class.
  • Students may cancel their registration until two weeks prior to the class date. After this two week deadline, there will be no refunds or transfers. If a student transfers to another class prior to the two weeks of class, a 20% transfer fee will be charged.  The transfer must be for a class within one year of the original class.
