Canal Park would not exist without the countless hours and hard work of dedicated volunteers. Whether you enjoy working with your hands or sharing stories with park guests, there are volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule. Check out some options below, and please get in touch so we can match you with a role that suits your skills and interests! For each opportunity, you can select the schedule that works for you–join the fun when you’re able!
Canal Boat
Want to pilot and crew Indiana’s only canal boat? Join the crew or narrate on The Delphi for Canal Season, special events, or tours. April through October, days and times vary.
Pioneer Village
Docents and historic craftspeople bring the Pioneer Village to life during Canal Season and for tours. You can even get involved with historic trades classes! April through October, days and times vary.
Museum Front Desk
Help us welcome guests, ring up sales for canal boat rides and the gift shop, and be a friendly presence on weekends at the museum! April through December, Saturday afternoons 1-4PM.
M-W-F Crew
The illustrious Monday-Wednesday-Friday Crew keeps Canal Park looking its best! If you’re handy and looking for meaningful and unique projects, join the team! Year-round, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
Trails Team
We maintain about 6 miles of wooded trails in and around the City of Delphi. This is perfect for those who enjoy nature and working outdoors! Year-round, days and times vary.
Gardening
Volunteer gardeners maintain stunning historic gardens throughout Canal Park. Whether you’re a master gardener or an aspiring learner, we can get you connected! March through November, days and times vary.
Museum docent
Tell the story of Indiana’s canals to school and tour groups! If you love talking about history, this is a perfect fit. April through October, days and times vary.
Reed Case House
This restored, historic home tells the story of the Canal Era upper-class. Greet guests during Canal Season and guide group tours. April through October, days and times vary.
Archives
Canal Park receives numerous historic donations, and we use PastPerfect museum software to organize it. Great for those who prefer to work behind the scenes! Year-round.
Concessions
During Canal Season and at special events we like to offer guests some light fare to enjoy. If you are interested in retail and food service, get in touch! Canal Season, Saturday afternoons.
Musicians
The sound of music around Canal Park creates a welcoming, fun, family atmosphere. Let us know if you can play for us at our historic site! Canal Season, Saturday afternoons.
Community Hikes
Whether you are interested primarily in nature or history, we would love to have you lead a community walk! These events are informal and fun, welcoming for all walkers. May through December, Saturday afternoons.
