Food is cooking near the fire of a stone hearth in the Fouts Cabin in Canal Park.

Description: NEW RECIPES – Learn how to build a fire in a hearth, about tools and utensils and pans used in hearth cooking, safety, learn boiling using a crane (to make a chowder), frying using a trivet (to make either fry bread or a fried biscuit), and baking using a dutch oven (to make plain cake and then ice it).  If time, we’ll try using the corn pone pan to make corn dodgers.  We will also make an extract.  We’ll talk about coffee flavorings using your extracts.  It is helpful for participants to wear a sturdy apron.  This is a one-day class.

Several bottles of extracts sit in front of a window of the Fouts Cabin at Canal Park.
