Bring Your Class to the Canal!
Take advantage of this fun-filled learning opportunity! School tours are available from late April to the 2nd week of October. Our school tours start at approximately 9:00 am.
Our guided tours are geared for 3rd, 4th & 5th grades. With these age groups, we do a rotation of 40 to 45-minute rotations where our docents lead groups though the Interpretive Museum, visit our pioneer village one room schoolhouse and ride on our canal boat, The Delphi.
Group Sizes
While 60 students for the day is an ideal group number, we know that most schools have larger numbers that must be accommodated. We offer other options for larger numbers of students. We can arrange Village Crafters such as the Blacksmith, Broom maker, Weaver, Cooper, Papermaker or a hike down to the Railroad Depot. These are volunteers and arrangements must be made in advance.
For younger children not quite ready for this long of a field trip, we offer our pioneer village where they learn about the community and what it was like and the one-room schoolhouse. Small groups can go through the museum with their chaperones.
Play Boat
We have a play canal boat that children of all ages can enjoy.
Picnic Shelters
We have 2 picnic shelters available for those who may bring a sack lunch, as there is no food available at the Canal for purchase.
Weather
We cannot reschedule due to weather, so dress for the weather forecasted since we will be outside. Tennis shoes are highly recommended. If there is high water, and the boat is not running, we will contact you in advance.
