Canal Park would not exist without the countless hours and hard work of dedicated volunteers. Whether you enjoy working with your hands or sharing stories with park guests, there are volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule.

Volunteer Opportunities at Canal Park
Wabash & Erie Canal Park continues to grow by regularly adding new attractions in the Park, including buildings of the Canal era. A group of volunteers that enjoy the work of restoring, reproducing and maintaining those historic structures which were built a hundred plus years ago are beginning the spring season with new enthusiasm. Additional workers are always welcome.
Canal Boat
Want to ride on a Canal Boat? Volunteer and become part of the crew or narrate on The Delphi on weekends, events and for our School and Group Tours. Choose your own schedule.
Historic Docents/Interpreters
Docents and Interpreters staff our historic buildings weekends and during events. Greet our visitors, give tours through our Canal Museum or historic Case House. Many opportunities.
Building Maintenance
Various tasks available to keep our buildings in shape, including painting, minor repairs and more. You can work with our Monday, Wednesday, Friday crew on all kinds of projects.
Housekeeping
During the year, Village buildings need cleaning care. Volunteers make sure we are ready for our visitors. Help a little or a lot as your schedule allows.
Clerical/Office
Like to volunteer to help with mailings, labeling and more? Many options, the tasks are typically at the Interpretive Center.
Trades & Crafts
killed craftsmen and women can volunteer with our current trades people. Cooper, Paper Maker, Broom Maker, School Teacher, Blacksmith, Carpenter and more. Weekends and during events.
Trails & Grounds
Volunteers assist in maintaining our trails and park grounds. Working with our trails group, outside.
Historic Gardens
Volunteer with our landscapers to care for our historic gardens. Select one garden or be part of a team to give general care to our plants with fellow gardeners.
School & Group Tours
Enjoy meeting our many tour visitors? Help guide our visitors, volunteer in a village building or lead a group through the museum. We can train you for the area you are interested in.
Events & Festivals
Volunteers are needed to assist during events and festivals. Helping as docents, floaters, lead activities, work with kids’ crafts and other jobs during events. Lots of variety available.
Retail
Volunteers assist in the Interpretive Center Gift Shop, ring up sales for Canal Boat rides, Canal Museum or Case House tours. Options can include helping in the Pioneer Village shops during events.
Musicians
Volunteers are invited to play for our events. If you like to play an instrument, contact us for opportunities. Outside, in the Pioneer Village and in the Interpretive Center.
Museum /Archives
Volunteers work with our group on a variety of tasks, researching, cleaning, categorizing items. Options include creating exhibits including development and construction for our Canal Museum.
Apple Dumplings
Volunteer with our bakers to create our famous apple dumplings. A seasonal position, lots of fun in the kitchen.
Special Projects
Like to work with computers, website maintenance, Facebook? Make signs? Sew historic clothing? Photography, Public Relations or other skill? Let us know your special talent.
