SUMMARY:Broom Making Class - Fall 2024
DESCRIPTION:Description: Learn to make a whisk broom. Try your hand at traditional Appalachian broom making using a tying box (miniature winder).  In this class we will explore options for whisk brooms. First timers will make turkey wing\, hawks’ tail\, hen’s wing.  Part 2\, for those who have done the prior\, will have the option of doubles\, X’s\, and emphasis on plaiting.  Choice of plaiting and cord colors. \n \nWhen: Saturday\, August 31\, 9:00AM – 1:00PM \nInstructor: Bev Larson. In 2009 Bev added broom making to her weaving experience and it too is now a passion.  In 2016 she received the honor of being named an Indiana Artisan by the State of Indiana for both broom making and basket weaving. \nCost: $82.00. This cost covers registration and all necessary materials. \nSkill Level: Beginner\, age 16 to adult. \nClass Size: Minimum 4 students\, maximum 8 students. \nLocation: Wabash & Erie Canal Park\, Pioneer Village: Broom Maker Shop (or wherever it is warm enough that day). \nTerms and Conditions: \n\nRegistration and payment are required at least two weeks prior to the class dates.\nAll classes require pre-registration and pre-payment.\nTo reserve your spot and pre-pay by check\, please mail a check to Canal Park\, attn: Classes\, 1030 N. Washington Street\, Delphi\, IN 46923. Please identify your desired class(es) in the check’s memo. A fee will be charged for returned checks. \nWe reserved the right to cancel classes if minimum registrations are not met.  If we cancel a class\, students can transfer without a penalty.  A full refund (minus credit card fees) will be given to students who do not wish to transfer to another class. \nStudents may cancel or transfer classes up to two weeks prior to a class without losing their payment (minus credit card fees).  Deadline to register is two weeks prior to class.\nStudents may cancel their registration until two weeks prior to the class date. After this two week deadline\, there will be no refunds or transfers.\nIf a student transfers to another class prior to the two weeks of class\, a 20% transfer fee will be charged.  The transfer must be for a class within one year of the original class.

DESCRIPTION:Description: Learn a historic skill to make a wooden bucket using historic tools and methods.  Learn what old tools are still available today and make some that aren’t.  Students should feel comfortable using hand tools and will be learning to make staves\, bottom\, hoops and rope handles.  This a 2-day class. You can find tickets on the event page for Day 1 of this class. \n \nWhen: Friday and Saturday\, September 20-21\, with a one hour lunch break each day (bring your own lunch) \nInstructor: Peter Cooper.  Peter has been coopering since 1997.  He has taught coopering to over 500 students\, and made coopered products for national historic sites\, national parks and theme parks in the US and Canada. \nCost: $250.00. This cost covers registration and all necessary materials. Purchase tickets at this link. \nSkill Level: Beginner. Students ages 14-18 are allowed if accompanied by an adult. \nClass Size: Minimum 3 students\, maximum 5 students. \n Location: Wabash & Erie Canal Park\, Pioneer Village: Cooper Shop. \nTerms and Conditions: \n\nRegistration and payment are required at least two weeks prior to the class dates.\nAll classes require pre-registration and pre-payment.\nTo reserve your spot and pre-pay by check\, please mail a check to Canal Park\, attn: Classes\, 1030 N. Washington Street\, Delphi\, IN 46923. Please identify your desired class(es) in the check’s memo.
