Rotary Shelter

As you enjoy a magical day in the enchanted land of yesteryear, seeing all the sights and sounds of life in the 1850s, you’ll soon build up a healthy appetite! Whether you’re having a group tour, a family outing, or you’re hosting a special event, we have this picnic shelter located in the center of Canal Village for you to enjoy with family, friends, or schoolmates.

use our speece shelter to eat with your family

Speece Shelter

This shelter is called the Speece Shelter, which is made of some timbers donated from the 1850 Speece Warehouse by Josephine Blanchard, granddaughter of Lewis Speece and of Dr. James Blanchard, a Canal-era medical doctor in Delphi. Mr. Speece and his brothers operated a small but thriving enterprise along the Towpath at Carrollton. Yes, even our picnic area is a historical building!

Food

Keep in mind, we do NOT serve food except on certain occasions in the summertime from our Summer Kitchen. We can give you a list of caterers and local restaurants upon request.
Also, remember that our facility is entirely run by volunteers, so please be courteous and
clean up after yourself—thank you!
