Deer Creek Dam by Terry Lacy
The large-scale oil paintings in the lobby of the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center were done by artist, Terry Lacy. He has also illustrated many of the interpretive panels seen throughout Canal Park as part of the Total Canal Experience.
Terry is a seasoned illustrator and designer, working on editorial, exhibit and print communication projects. His creative
work also includes hand made paper compositions of the American rural
landscape and other natural subject matter.
He and his designer/artist wife, Fran started working with handmade paper over twenty years ago. On their farm in the Wabash Valley in Carroll County north of Delphi, they rehabilitated a barn into a studio with a lower room devoted completely to working with wet paper pulp. There, they create handmade paper to produce one of a kind pieces of art. They have exhibited widely and also accept
commission work.
He has done plein-air landscapes for over 40 years. Over the past several years, he has also developed an inventory of
watercolors produced on site in the red rock canyon country of the
American Southwest, some of which can be seen
here.
Terry earned a BFA from Herron School of Art and an MFA in Graphic Design from Indiana University. He taught Graphic Design for eight years at Purdue University.
Some of Terry's work can be seen in Delphi at the
Opera House Gallery of Contemporary Art.
